STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma State continued its dominance as the nation's top field goal defensive team, smothering a potent Texas offense in a 70-51 upset of the 23rd ranked Longhorns on Saturday.
The Cowgirls (9-2, 1-1 Big 12) held the Longhorns to just 13 field goals for the game. Texas' top three scorers Yvonne Anderson (11.2), Chassidy Fussell (16.3) and Ashleigh Fontenette (12.3) were a combined 3-of-27 against Oklahoma State and finished with 18 points collectively.
"I thought we had a really good game plan and executed it well," Oklahoma State coach Jim Littell said. "I'm really, really proud of our ladies, the way we fought, the way we prepared. We played with a lot of heart. It's great to protect your home court, especially against a ranked team."
Texas coach Gail Goestenkors said lack of depth at guard has been an issue for her Longhorns (10-4, 0-2).
"We only have four," she said. "So, we really need for Ashleigh, Yvonne and Chassidy to come ready to play and play well."
Four players finished in double figures for Oklahoma State, which picked up its first win over a ranked opponent since March 12, 2010, when the Cowgirls defeated 14th-ranked Iowa State, 62-59.
Toni Young, who started 46 games in her first two seasons at Oklahoma State, came off the bench to record 14 points and 10 rebounds against Texas.
Asked if she was more confident in the sixth-player role, Young said, "Actually, I am. We have so many players who can all start at any point. If it's me coming off the bench, I'm going to do my work."
Freshman forward Liz Donohoe also had a double-double for the Cowgirls, finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Lindsey Keller chipped in 13 points, going 3-of-4 from 3-point range, including one long-range basket that sealed the game for the Cowgirls with 4:00 remaining for a 63-47 cushion.
"That was a big shot," Littell said. "That gave us confidence that we could finish this one off."
OSU center Kendra Suttles led all scorers with 15 points, going 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
Chelsea Bass and Cokie Reed led Texas with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Reed and teammate Ashley Gayle each fouled out in the game.
