No. 22 Men's Cross Country places fourth at Wisconsin adidas Invitational

MADISON, Wis. - No. 22 Texas men's cross country placed fourth out of 45 teams at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Saturday at Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course with a total of 267 points.
"I'm proud of all our guys today, but I know that this team can be a lot better," distance coach John Hayes said. "We had some very nice efforts today but also a few runners fell on the course, which makes for some unfortunate circumstances in a large field like this. We feel we are a better team than our finish indicates."
In the last primer before the Big 12 Championships in Austin on Oct. 27, sophomore Craig Lutz led the Longhorns with an 8K time of 23:38. Lutz improved on his previous 8K time this season by 43 seconds and came within six seconds of matching his personal record.
After pacing UT at the Greater Louisville Classic two weeks ago, senior Rory Tunningley was the second Longhorn to finish by setting personal record time of 23:46.
Junior Ryan Dohner (35th) and sophomore Mark Pinales (172nd) all ran their first races of the season, while senior transfer Kyle Merber (93rd) competed in his first race as a Longhorn.
Senior Patrick McGregor finished the race in 107th-place with a personal-record 24:18 - one second faster than his previous PR set at the Greater Louisville Classic. Senior transfer Trevor Van Ackeren finished seconds behind McGregor in 132nd-place with a time of 24:26.
No. 8 Stanford finished first as a team with 135 points, while Arizona featured the top two runners - first-place Lawi Lalang (23:03) and second-place Stephen Sambu (23:07) - but finished 25th as a team.
In the `B' Race, Texas was represented by a 25th-place finish from sophomore Blake Williams (24:59) and a 43rd-place finish from freshman Brady Turnbull (25:13).
Tomorrow, another portion of the men's roster will try for a third consecutive title in the 5K Concordia Invitational, held on the campus of Cedar Park High School in nearby Cedar Park, Texas.
The Big 12 Cross Country Championships will be held on Oct. 27 at Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin, Texas.
