Women's Basketball completes WBI Tip Off Classic with 72-52 win over Hofstra

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Texas Women's Basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young 2012-13 season with an emphatic 72-52 victory over the Hofstra Pride on Saturday afternoon at the WBI Tip Off Classic.
Sophomore Nneka Enemkpali followed up her 25-point, 12-rebound double-double to kick off the season against St. John's on Friday with a 26-point, 10-rebound performance to lead the Longhorns again on Saturday. Junior Chassidy Fussell put up similarly strong numbers, recording 18 points and nine rebounds.
As a team, the Longhorns were again impressive on the boards, outrebounding Hofstra 62-31.
UT and Hofstra traded scoring runs in the first half with neither team leading by more than five points. Texas took control on the boards for the second straight game, outrebounding the Pride 32-15 heading into halftime, but still found itself down by four. Enemkpali scored 13 first-half points to pace the Longhorns.
Texas turned it on in the second half, opening the period with a 24-6 run to grab an 11-point lead. The Longhorns would only extend that lead, sparking an 18-4 run beginning at the 8:53 mark to go up 22.
Shante Evans led the Pride with 15 points and six rebounds while Candave Bond added 10 points of her own. Deven Green added six boards.
Enemkpali was named MVP of the WBI Tip Off Classic while Fussell was named to the All-Tournament Team.

TEAM NOTES
-UT outrebounded Hofstra 62-31 in the game, including taking a 32-15 in the first half. It is the sixth time in school history that Texas has recorded 62 rebounds in a single game, tying for UT's fifth-best single-game mark.
- In two games at the WBI Tip Off Classic, Texas dominated its opposition 109-57 on the boards.
-The Longhorns held Hofstra to 9-of-35 shooting (.257) in the second half while shooting 50 percent as a team in the period.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
Nneka Enemkpali
-Posted her second consecutive double-double, scoring a game- and career-high 26 points with 10 rebounds.
-Named MVP of the WBI Tip Off Classic with 51 points and 22 rebounds in two games.
Chassidy Fussell
-With 18 points and nine rebounds, was one board shy of what would have been her second career double-double.
Nadia Taylor
-Played in her first game on the basketball court as a Longhorn, grabbing a rebound in four minutes of play.
