TEAM NOTES
- The Series: Texas and Iowa State met for the 10th time on Saturday (UT leads 9-1). All but one of those games has come with both as members of the Big 12 Conference. The teams first met in 1979 with the Longhorns winning 17-9 in Austin. The Horns, who have scored 37 or more points six times in the series, have won four of the five meetings in Austin. Mack Brown teams are 8-1 against ISU with the lone loss coming in 2010 in Austin (28-21).
- Royal Honored: In honor of the passing of Darrell Royal, the Texas offense lined up in the Wishbone formation on its first play. The formation was created during the 1968 season and helped catapult the Longhorns on a school-record 30-game winning streak, the 11th-longest in college football history. The Horns went with a trick play. David Ash handed off to Jaxon Shipley, who was in the backfield, and threw to back to Ash who hit Greg Daniels for 47 yards. The team also wore special 'DKR' Longhorn decals on its helmets today to honor Royal. The decals will remain on the helmets the rest of the season.
- Big Crowd: Today's attendance was 100,018, the 22nd largest crowd in Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium history and 22nd time there have been more than 100,000.
- First-Half Offense: Texas had 344 total yards of offense in the first half, the third most in a half this season (391 in second half vs. Ole Miss; 352 in first half vs. Baylor).
- Total Offensive Output: With 609 total yards of offense today, Mack Brown has coached Texas to over 500 yards of total offense in 53 games and it is the 22nd game in school history the Horns have posted 600 or more total yards. It is the second time this season Texas recorded 600 yards or more of total offense (676 at Ole Miss; 525 vs. Baylor). Texas has 8-of-10 games with more than 400 yards of total offense this season.
- Holding the Cyclones Offense in Check: Iowa State was held to 277 total yards in the game. It marked the third lowest output of the season for the Cyclones and third time this season the Longhorns have held an opponent under 300 total yards (241 vs. New Mexico; 273 at Kansas).
- Third-Down Conversions: Iowa State was just 3 of 12 in third-down conversions, including 0-for-4 in the second half when the Cyclones managed just 64 yards of offense (on 18 plays). Texas, meanwhile, converted 8 of 14 third-down attempts in the game. The Longhorns entered the game fifth in the FBS in offensive third-down efficiency (52.4 percent/66 of 126).
- Big Plays: Texas entered the game with 17 offensive plays of 40 yards or more, with nine resulting in touchdowns. After nine games last season, the Horns had 11 plays over 40 yards with three resulting in a TD. Eight different Horns have a 40-plus yard offensive play this season. David Ash hit Greg Daniels for 47 yards on the first play of today's game. Ash then connected with Mike Davis on a 61-yard TD later in the first quarter. Davis has a team-high seven plays (all receptions) of 40 or more yards.
- Two 100-yard Receivers: Jaxon Shipley (137) and Mike Davis (113) each posted 100 receiving yards. It marked the 13th time in school history (second this season) that feat occurred. Marquise Goodwin (102) and Davis (124) went over 100 vs. Ole Miss.
- Out of Action: DT Ashton Dorsey (right calf), OT Kennedy Estelle (left shoulder), DB Sheroid Evans (right lower leg) and LB Jordan Hicks (left hip) did not play due to injury.

Brown is now 235-115-1 all-time as a head coach. He now sits alone in 11th place on the NCAA FBS career wins list. He entered the game tied with Bo Schembechler.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
David Ash, QB
- Made his 16th-career start ... has an 11-5 record as a starter with wins in nine of his last 11.
- Completed 25 of 31 passes for a career-high 364 yards (10th all-time on the UT single-game list) and two TDs. Has three 300-yard passing games this season.
- Moved into ninth on the UT career passing yards list (3,433). He passed Bobby Layne (1944-47/3,145), who was 10th, and on Ash's second TD pass, he moved ahead Garrett Gilbert (2009-11/3,301) for ninth.
- Completed his first 11 passes of the game. Had 12 straight completions dating back to the Texas Tech game.
Joe Bergeron, RB
- Rushed for 86 yards on 12 carries to become the 47th player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 career yards (1,013).
Malcolm Brown RB
- Rushed for 31 yards on 10 carries to become the 48th player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 career yards (1,018).
Carrington Byndom, CB
- Had his third interception of the season (tied for team lead with Kenny Vaccaro) and fifth of his career in the first quarter.
Greg Daniels, TE
- Had a career-long 47-yard reception on the opening play of the game. Ended the day with two catches for 62. Both career highs.
Mike Davis, WR
- Had seven receptions for 113 receiving yards. He vaulted from ninth to seventh on the Texas career receiving yards chart (1,924). He passed Tony Jones (1986-89/1,842) and Limas Sweed (2004-07/1,915).
- He had his seventh-career 100-yard receiving game (three this season).
Johnathan Gray, RB
- Had 14 carries for 74 rushing yards to move into 10th-place on the UT freshman single-season rushing list (607).
Peter Jinkens, LB
- Made his first-career start and posted a career-high six tackles, including one tackle for loss.
Alex King, P
- Had his first touchback of the season in the first quarter. Entering the game, the Horns were one of just three teams in the nation (also USC and West Virginia) without a touchback.
Jaxon Shipley, WR
- Caught eight passes for 137 yards for his third career 100-yard receiving game (first of the season). Two of his three 100-yard games have been against Iowa State (149 yards in 2011).
