BERKELEY, Calif. - Texas sophomore swimmer Kaitlin Pawlowicz and junior diver Maren Taylor posted two wins apiece, but No. 3 California emerged with a 172-128 victory over the Longhorns Friday afternoon at Cal's Spieker Aquatic Complex
"We saw some good things out here today, and Kaitlin Pawlowicz continues to have a nice fall," UT head coach Carol Capitani said. "The divers were terrific, once again. We're still a little tired, but we need to keep racing hard and looking for ways to get our hands on the wall first. The effort is there. We're going to look to finish a good weekend of racing tomorrow at Stanford."
Pawlowicz posted the first win of the day for the Longhorns in the 1000-yard freestyle, where she was victorious in 9 minutes, 52.48 seconds. Sophomore Kelsey LeNeave finished off a one-two Texas showing in 9:59.15. Pawlowicz returned four events later to claim the 200 butterfly in 1:59.55. Senior Bethany Adams added the Horns third win of the afternoon in the 50 freestyle in 23.28. Classmate Kelsey Amundsen took second in 23.35.
Taylor posted the first of two diving wins in the three-meter event, where she edged Cal's Kahley Rowell with 312.15 points. Senior Shelby Cullinan took third with 305.93 points. Taylor tacked on a win in the one-meter event with 318.15 points. Freshman Meghan Houston placed second with 286.05 points.
Texas finished off the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as Amundsen, sophomore Gretchen Jaques, junior Sarah Denninghoff and Adams finished in 1:31.85.
The Longhorns wrap up their weekend of competition Saturday at Stanford. The meet gets underway at 2 p.m. Central at the Cardinal's Avery Aquatic Center. A live results link is available at TexasSports.com.
