TEAM NOTES
- The Series: Texas improved to 3-0 in the all-time series with tonight's 31-27 victory. The Longhorns downed the Beavers, 35-0, in 1980 in Austin. Seven years later, the teams met again in Austin, with Texas posting a 61-16 victory.
- Bowl Success: Texas played in its 14th bowl game in Mack Brown's 15 years. The Horns have won nine of their last 11 bowls and have a 10-4 record under Brown. In the 15 years prior to Brown's arrival, Texas went to eight bowls and was 2-6. Brown is the first UT coach since Darrell Royal, who was 8-7-1 in bowl games, to post a .500 or better bowl record. Brown has directed his teams to 20 bowls in the last 21 seasons, which is tied for the longest active streak in the nation with Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech.
- Comebacks Under Brown: During Mack Brown's 15 seasons at Texas, the Horns have registered 28 second-half comebacks, including 17 fourth-quarter comebacks. This is the Horns third comeback victory of the season. They trailed twice in the fourth quarter (33-28 & 36-34) of the Oklahoma State game before rallying. Texas also overcame a 17-14 deficit at Kansas to win 21-17.
- Second-Half Adjustments: Texas held the Oregon State offense to 69 total yards in the second half. The Beavers averaged just 2.46 yards per play over the final 30 minutes of action. OSU managed minus 4 yards of total offense in the fourth quarter. Conversely, the Longhorn offense posted 235 total yards in the second half on 38 plays (6.2 yards per play).
- Forcing Turnovers: Texas forced three turnovers in the game and scored 10 points off those miscues. On the season, the Longhorns outscored the opposition 93-45 off turnovers.
- Breaking up is Hard to Do: Texas had four pass breakups in the game, including two by Kenny Vaccaro. It marked the third time this season the Longhorns posted four or more in one game.
- Sack Attack: Texas posted a season-high 10 sacks in the game, including a career-best 4.5 from Alex Okafor. It marked the most sacks by the Longhorns since 1981 when they posted 15 vs. Texas Tech (Oct. 31). The 10 sacks also set a bowl record (previous record: five by four teams).
- Against Ranked Teams: Texas improved to 3-3 in games this season vs. top 25 teams. The Horns defeated Oklahoma State (No. 22 in USA Today Coaches poll) and Texas Tech (No. 20 in both polls). The Longhorns lost to West Virginia, Oklahoma and Kansas State, all top 10 teams.
