Rowing claims six of the top nine spots at the Fighting Nutria

AUSTIN, Texas- The University of Texas rowing team claimed six of the top nine places at the Fighting Nutria race on Lady Bird Lake on Saturday morning. The annual 8,100 meter head-style race marked the 2012 spring season debut for the Longhorns.
The Fighting Nutria is a local rivalry race between The University of Texas Rowing team and the UT men's club team, Texas Crew. In the scoring system kept between the two teams, The Texas Rowing team posted a 15-8 victory against the UT men's club team.
UT's first varsity eight boat of coxswain Rachel Donnelly, stroke Jacqueline Gorcyca, Laurel McCaig, Olivia Nail, Chelsea Burns, Katarina Susac, Tea Vrtlar, Sydney Boyes and Courtney Nicklas placed fourth in a time of 29:06.00.
The second varsity eight boat of coxswain Megan Kelly, stroke Jessica Glennie, Brenna Coldren, Casey Redman, Devon Clark, Hannah Moon, Kim Gorcyca, Taylor Parker and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner finished fifth, posting a time of 29:24.00.
The third varsity eight boat of coxswain Emily Lantz, stroke Lyndsey DuBose, Sarah Pedersen, Abbey Wilkowski, Karli Sheahan, Taylor Dorsey, Lauren Studey, Jillian Byron and Emily Jones took sixth place, recording a time of 30:40.00.
The first novice boat comprised of coxswain Kassie Budzik, stroke Taylar Williams, Christine Young, Kara Turner, Amy Gross, Alex Buck, Angela Bumstead, Sara Walton and Lauren Barlow finished seventh in a time of 31:34.00.
The second novice boat of coxswain Stephanie Bickford, stroke Brenda Morlan-Villafuerte, Sarita Scott, Sarah Ott, Sky Gilmour, Jazmin Smith, Kim Magnus, Jessica Williams and Lauren Moberg placed eighth in a time of 32:17.00.
UT's third novice boat of coxswain Kenna Harris, stroke Nicole Kruijs, Caroline Beltran, Heather Leighton, Julia Colman, Alline Kane, Lucia Mueller, Sam Jackson and Corey Timmerman claimed ninth place, registering a time of 32:56.00.
The fourth novice boat of coxswain Anna Vaught, stroke Whitney Glick, Katie Ogg, Angela Harris, Edima Essien, Jenna Shorter, Lauren Deschner, Erissa Hinshaw and Madeline Stalheber finished 12th in a time of 34:26.00.
Texas Rowing returns to action on Saturday, March 3 at the Heart of Texas Regatta on Austin's Lady Bird Lake.
