Women's Swimming & Diving finishes second at Big 12 Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Texas Women's Swimming & Diving team took home second place at the Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo.
For the four-day meet UT scored 873 points to finish behind Texas A&M's 1,019 points.
The Longhorns ended the meet on a strong note by winning the 400 freestyle relay. Karlee Bispo led things off and teamed up with Kelsey Amundsen, Alex Hooper and Samantha Tucker for a time of 3:16.42. Texas has won the event in three of the last four years.
Laura Sogar claimed her first NCAA A qualifying mark of the season on the final day. She ended up second in the 200 breaststroke but swam a 2:08.36 to best the A time. Gretchen Jaques also had her best time of the season with a 2:13.65 for fourth.
Two divers were in the top three of the platform diving competition. Diana Wilcox came in second with 298.30 points while Shelby Cullinan was next with 282.60 points.
Texas had three of the top four swimmers in the 100 freestyle. Karlee Bispo finished second with a time of 47.97 while Samantha Tucker was third and Kelsey Amundsen fourth. All three were under 50.00.
Kelsey LeNeave swam a season-best 16:16.41 in the 1650 freestyle to come in second overall. Fellow freshman Kaitlin Pawlowicz was fourth with a time of 16:27.87. Senior Leah Gingrich was sixth in the event.
The other events on the day were the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly. Katie Riefenstahl swam a 1:57.25 for fifth in the 200 back to lead UT while Ellen Lobb was the top finisher in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.55 for fourth.
Next weekend some Texas swimmers will have one more chance to qualify for the NCAA championships as the American Short Course Championships will take place at the Lee & Joe Jamail Swimming Center in Austin.
