Brown, Kabongo Earn Spots on Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Awards Teams

IRVING, Texas -- Two University of Texas players earned spots on the 2011-12 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Awards teams, the league office announced Sunday. Junior guard J'Covan Brown claimed a spot on the five-person All-Big 12 First Team. Freshman guard Myck Kabongo earned recognition on the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Team and was named to the five-person Big 12 All-Rookie Team.
Brown is the seventh UT player in the last seven years to earn a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team. He joins LaMarcus Aldridge (2006), P.J. Tucker (2006), Kevin Durant (2007), D.J. Augustin (2008), Damion James (2010) and Jordan Hamilton (2011). Brown currently leads the Big 12 Conference in scoring (20.0 ppg) and also leads the team in steals (40) and minutes (35.3 mpg) and ranks second in assists (3.8 apg). He has recorded 30-plus points four times this year, topped the 20-point mark 17 times and reached double figures in scoring in 29 of the first 31 games.
Kabongo was one of 10 individuals to earn a spot on the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Team. He leads the team in assists (5.3 apg), ranks second in steals (38) and is third in scoring (9.8 ppg). Kabongo has recorded at least five assists in 18 of the first 31 games this year, and he has reached double figures in scoring 18 times.
The official All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
