No. 6 Women's Tennis falls to Oklahoma State, 4-3

STILLWATER, Okla. - No. 6 Texas (14-7, 7-2 Big 12) picked up singles wins from Lina Padegimaite, Elizabeth Begley and Krista Damico, but No. 51 Oklahoma State (11-8, 5-4 Big 12) dealt the Horns a 4-3 defeat Sunday afternoon at OSU's DeBois Tennis Complex.
Oklahoma State led off the match with victories at the third and first doubles positions to claim the doubles point. Texas closed out the doubles session with a win at the second slot, where the 42nd-ranked duo of Lina Padegimaite and Noel Scott notched an 8-5 win over OSU's Meghan Blevins and Mary Jeremiah.
Padegimaite put the Horns on the board with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles over OSU's Jeremiah. Texas assumed a 2-1 lead at sixth singles, where Elizabeth Begley completed an undefeated season in conference play with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Isabela Miro.
Krista Damico pushed the Texas lead to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over C.C. Sardinha at first singles. The Cowgirls cut the UT lead to 3-2 when Kanyapat Narattana held off UT's Cierra Gaytan-Leach by a 7-6, 6-2 count at fourth singles. OSU evened the match at three when Blevins held on for a 6-2, 6-4 win over UT's Scott at third singles.
At second singles, which would ultimately the match's outcome, OSU's Malika Rose took the first set off of UT's Aeriel Ellis before Ellis rallied to take the second set, 6-4. Rose prevailed in the final set, 6-2 to take the match and preserve the 4-3 Oklahoma State victory.
Texas is assured of a top-four seed and a first-round bye at this week's Big 12 Championship at Texas A&M. The Big 12 Conference will release the tournament draw following Monday's Iowa State-Baylor match.
