Walker wins 400m hurdles final at Jamaican Trials to punch ticket to London

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- On the second day of the Jamaica National Senior Championships, former Longhorn Melaine Walker won the finals of the 400m hurdles to advance to the 2012 London Olympics where she will represent Jamaica.
The reigning World and Olympic champion finished the race in 54.77, just under three tenths of a second ahead of second-place Kaleise Spencer. Walker qualified for the final with a time of 54.88 in Thursday's prelims and was the only competitor in either round to break 55 seconds.
Rising junior Danielle Dowie also competed in the 400m hurdles final after qualifying fourth on Thursday in a time of 56.85. She finished sixth on Friday in 58.21.
Former Longhorn Mardrea Hyman will compete tomorrow on the third day of the Jamaica Trials in the 3000m Steeplechase.
