No. 13/15 Track & Field earns multiple victories on opening day of Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 13/15 Texas Track & Field recorded multiple event victories and a strong slate of personal-best performances Thursday night on the opening day of the Texas Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Mackenzie Collins led a 1-2 finish in the women's 400-meter hurdles, winning in a personal-best 56.08, followed by Anouk Krause-Jentsch in second with a personal-best 56.40. Kody Blackwood added a victory on the men's side, taking first in the 400-meter hurdles in 49.26.
In the field, Shaiquan Dunn claimed the men's discus title with a personal-best mark of 57.33m (188-01.00), while David Jarolimek placed third at 56.40m (185-09.00). Mathis Vaitulukina earned a win in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.54m (24-09.00), and Tabea Eitel captured the women's long jump title at 6.16m (20-02.50). Caroline Peterson added a victory in the women's high jump with a personal-best clearance of 1.74m (5-08.50), while Jeanne Le Goff finished second at 1.70m (5-07.00).
On the track, Elise Cooper led Texas in the women's 200 meters with a runner-up finish in a personal-best 22.67, followed by Carleta Bernard (third, 22.86). Abigail Wolfe (22.94), Naomi London (23.03) and Amelliah Birdow (23.26) each posted personal-best times. On the men's side, Kendrick Smallwood (20.77), John Rutledge (20.79), Jayden Jones (20.90) and Xavier Butler (21.22) all placed in the top 10.
In the distance events, Isabel Conde de Frankenberg won the women's 1,500 meters in 4:17.31 to lead a strong Texas showing. Mia Perez (third, 4:19.67), Elizabeth Pickett (fifth, 4:19.88) and Sophie Atkinson (sixth, 4:20.25) each recorded personal-best times. On the men's side, Nathanael Berhane (second, 3:46.22), Hudson Bennett (third, 3:46.93), Zain Hamdani (fourth, 3:48.49) and Joaquin De La Cruz (fifth, 3:49.21) all posted personal-best marks in the 1,500 meters.
Texas added distance success in the women's 5,000 meters with Melody Espinoza winning in 16:59.65 and Marissa Espinoza placing second in 17:42.70. Annie Christie finished third with a personal-best 17:52.28. Hudson Heikkinen took second in the men's 5,000 meters in 14:51.37.
Additional field event results included Sam Abati finishing second in the men's pole vault at 5.30m (17-04.50), Sophia Kowalski placing fourth in the women's pole vault at 3.90m (12-09.50), Osawese Agbonkonkon taking third in the men's high jump at 2.12m (6-11.50), and Iana Ahetz-Etcheber placing third in the women's long jump with a personal-best 5.78m (18-11.75).
Competition at the Texas Invitational resumes Friday, May 1, at 9:30 a.m. with the women's hammer throw.
