Destinee Hooker leads again for U.S. in win against Brazil at 2012 Olympics

LONDON -- Former Texas student-athlete Destinee Hooker led with a match-high 22 kills Monday as the United States Women's Volleyball Team recorded a four-set win (25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21) over Brazil in Group B action at the 2012 Olympics. The U.S. is now 2-0 in pool play and will face China on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. Central.
Hooker added 12 digs in today's match and is averaging 5.13 kills per set through two matches so far.
Viewed by many as one of the top volleyball players in the world, the 6-4 outside hitter from San Antonio, Texas, led the Longhorns to the 2009 NCAA Championship title match and was named Most Outstanding Player for the tournament. Hooker earned AVCA and Volleyball Magazine All-America First Team honors that season, along with being named Big 12 Player of the Year, after recording 526 kills, 47 aces and 87 blocks. She was named Most Valuable Player of the 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix as she helped the United States to win for the second year in a row.
