No. 5 Women's Swimming & Diving falls to No. 3 Georgia, 143-100

ATHENS, Ga. - No. 5 Texas (3-3) notched five victories, but No. 3 Georgia (6-0) prevailed by a 143-100 margin Saturday on the Bulldogs' Senior Day at UGA's Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Texas opened the meet by taking second in the 400-yard medley relay, as Sarah Denninghoff, Laura Sogar, Gretchen Jaques and Ellen Lobb finished in 3 minutes, 39.72 seconds. UT's Kaitlin Pawlowicz paced the Horns in the 1000 freestyle by taking second in 9:50.25. Kelsey LeNeave placed third in 9:56.63.
Texas' Alex Hooper took third in the 200 freestyle at 1:48.17, and Denninghoff followed in fourth at 1:49.51. The gold medalist in this event at the London Olympics, Georgia's Allison Schmitt, took first in 1:47.16. The 50 freestyle featured the top-three swimmers finishing within four one-hundredths of a second of each other. Texas' Lobb took the win in 22.91 and out-touched UGA's Megan Romano, who finished in 22.92. Texas' Kelsey Amundsen took third in 22.95.
Maren Taylor led the Texas divers by taking second in the three-meter diving event with 343.05 points. Meghan Houston placed third with 337.50 points. Lobb later returned to post a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:01.10. Jaques became the second Texas swimmer to out-touch UGA's Romano by a hundredth of a second, and she did so in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 50.07. Amundsen placed third in 50.22.
Sarah Denninghoff cruised to victory in the 200 backstroke and took top honors in 1:57.15, good for a NCAA "B" cut. Senior Jessica Guro took fourth in 1:59.63. Taylor led a one-two Texas finish in the one-meter diving event with 325.73 points. Houston took second with 304.27 points.
Sogar completed a perfect road trip with a win in the 200 breaststroke, where she was victorious in 2:10.38. Sogar won silver in the 200m breaststroke last month at the FINA Short Course World Championships.
Texas capped the meet by taking second in the 400 freestyle relay, where Bethany Adams, Hooper, Samantha Tucker and Amundsen finished in 3:21.46.
Texas resumes competition on Jan. 25 when it visits TCU.
