2012 Texas-Oregon State Meeting Fifth-Most Watched in Valero Alamo Bowl History

The national television telecast of the 2012 Valero Alamo Bowl between #23 Texas and #13 Oregon State earned a 4.8 household coverage rating. The game averaged 4.70 million households, making it the fifth-most-watched game in Valero Alamo Bowl history and the 14th most-viewed non-BCS bowl in ESPN history in terms of household impressions.
In terms of average household impressions, the Valero Alamo Bowl now holds five of the Top 15 slots for non-BCS bowls in ESPN history, and the Longhorns have been involved in two of those. The 2006 match-up against Iowa ranks second in Alamo Bowl history and non-BCS games overall on ESPN with 5.52 million households.
The P2 + impressions for the 2012 Valero Alamo Bowl equate to 6.75 million viewers. The game also delivered the fourth-highest attendance in Valero Alamo Bowl history as a capacity crowd of 65,277 packed the 65,000 seat Alamodome on December 29. It was the bowl's fifth sellout in the last seven years.
The Longhorns win over the Beavers gave Texas its seventh bowl win in its last eight attempts, and the ninth win in the last 11. UT now has a 10-4 bowl record under Mack Brown. In the 15 years prior to Brown's arrival, Texas went to eight bowls and was 2-6. Brown is the first UT coach since Darrell Royal, who was 8-7-1 in bowl games, to post a .500 or better bowl record.
