The University of Texas Men's Tennis team travels to Waco, Texas to compete in the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships beginning Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Hurd Tennis Center.
The tournament is one of 12 regionals held across the nation with the singles and doubles champion from each region qualifying for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, starting Nov. 7 in New York.
The event will include a 128-player singles draw and a 64-team doubles draw. Texas will be represented by nine players -- eight in the singles draw and five teams in the doubles draw.
No. 10 Søren Hess-Olesen (5-2) is the top-seeded player in the singles draw and will have a bye in the round of 128. Freshman George Goldhoff, No. 93 Sudanwa Sitaram and No. 101 Lloyd Glasspool also have first-round byes in the singles draw.
First round matchups for Longhorns in the singles round of 128 include Nick Naumann facing SMU's Nate Lammons, David Holiner facing Texas Tech's Francisco Zambon, Jacoby Lewis facing UT Arlington's Daniel Armengol, Clement Homs facing UTSA's Joel Rubio and Adrien Berkowicz facing ACU's Jason Proctor.
In the doubles draw, No. 29 David Holiner/Nick Nauman and Lloyd Glasspool/Søren Hess-Olesen each have first-round byes.
Two pair of Longhorns will be competing for the first time in doubles. Junior transfer Adrien Berkowicz and Sudanwa Sitaram team up to face Texas A&M's Behzad Minavi and Tito Moreiras in the first round, while freshman George Goldhoff and junior Jacoby Lewis will face UT-Pan American's Victor Alves and Joseph Bishop in the first round.
Clement Homs is slated to play doubles with TCU's Hudson Blake.
Last season, Daniel Whitehead won the USTA/ITA Texas Regional singles crown by defeating Baylor's Julian Lenz in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) in Fort Worth, Texas.
