UT’s Breaunna Addison and Pippa Horn earn a berth in next month’s USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas sophomore Breaunna Addison and freshman Pippa Horn defeated Texas A&M's Stefania Hristov and Cristina Stancu to claim the doubles title Monday at the ITA Texas Regional Championship. The victory awards Addison and Horn a berth to compete in next month's USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship in New York City.
Addison and Horn dealt the Aggies' eighth-ranked duo an 8-3 defeat in Monday's finals.
"Pippa and Bree learned something new about their partnership each round, and they made adjustments as they progressed through the tournament," UT assistant coach Darija Klaic said. "Pippa and Bree executed the strategy we agreed upon to perfection. They started with a good base and kept building on that foundation. By the end of the match, it was a fortress. They were unstoppable today."
Addison and Horn are set to compete in the doubles draw at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship Nov. 7-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the site of the annual U.S. Open.
The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship is one of three national championship events on the college tennis calendar. The ITA All-American Championships were contested earlier this month, and the NCAA Championships, featuring team, singles and doubles tournaments, are held in May.
