AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Softball team continues its 2013 fall schedule with a home game against Texas State on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The game will be televised live by Longhorn Network, with Alex Loeb (play-by-play) alongside former Longhorn (2002-03, 05-06) and three-time USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Cat Osterman (analyst) on the call.
Thursday's game will be a seven-inning contest in length without a run rule. Texas will use a pre-set batting order and a predetermined defensive lineup throughout the game. Lineups were decided based on who has earned the top nine spots on both offense and defense thus far.
UT's pitching staff combines for a perfect 0.00 ERA through its first four fall games, as all seven runs scored against the Longhorns have been unearned. All four hurlers will see action in the circle on Thursday night.
The Longhorns come into action 3-1 in the 2013 fall season and are looking to rebound from a 6-1 loss to St. Edward's back on Oct. 10. Texas State visits Austin, where it will be attempting to improve its undefeated fall record to 6-0.
UT has won eight straight regular season games against Texas State, including last spring's two-game sweep, which resulted in identical, 7-0, scores. Senior SS Taylor Thom and Bobacats' fourth-year OF Coralee Ramirez will reunite Thursday. The two were high school teammates while attending Vista Ridge (Cedar Park, TX). Junior catcher Mandy Ogle and Texas State freshman Bianca Prado were also teammates prior to playing at the collegiate level. Ogle and Prada played with one another at Canyon High School and as club fastpitch teammates for the Texas Bombers.
Admission to each of UT's home contests this fall is free, and fans can park for free in the UT parking lots surrounding McCombs Field (Lots 109, 114 and 115).
UT returns six starting position players and 12 letterwinners from last year's team, which posted a 51-10 overall record and finished the season ranked No. 3 in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball final polls. The Longhorns also welcome a total of seven freshmen to their squad.
