Sprinter Pieter Conradie will join the Longhorns for the spring semester.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Track and Field team is set to welcome another addition to its 2013-14 roster in sprinter and South Africa native Pieter Conradie, head coach Mario Sategna announced Friday.
"We are thrilled to welcome Pieter and his family to the Longhorn family," Sategna said. "The international experience he brings to our team will be a valuable addition to Texas' continued success on both the conference and national levels."
Conradie will join the Longhorns for the spring semester as a 400-meter specialist, having also competed in the 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Following a personal-best quarter-mile performance of 46.62 seconds in Johannesburg in April of this year, Conradie became the top-ranked junior and No. 7-ranked senior in South Africa in the event.
Conradie's international experience includes the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, where he reached the semifinals of the 400m (46.87) and also raced as part of South Africa's 4x100m relay. He was also a 400m semifinalist at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships in Lille, France.
