Three Longhorns are in the field of the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, starting Thursday, Nov. 7 in Flushing, N.Y. The event, held at the site of the US Open, is the culmination of the fall college tennis season.
Freshman George Goldhoff will compete in the 32-player singles draw with a first-round match against No. 85 Axel Alvarez (Oklahoma). Juniors Lloyd Glasspool and Søren Hess-Olesen will be the No. 2 seed in the 20-team doubles draw, facing USC's Max de Vroome and Eric Johnson in the first round.
Both Goldhoff and Glasspool/Hess-Olesen gained automatic entry into the tournament from competition this fall -- Goldhoff as a singles quarterfinalist in the ITA All-American Championships and Glasspool/Hess-Olesen as the USTA/ITA Texas Regional doubles champions.
Glasspool and Hess-Olesen turned in four wins against ranked opponents and a 10-1 record this fall to garner the No. 2 seed in the doubles draw. Goldhoff began his Longhorn career with six consecutive wins and an 11-3 record this fall, including a win over No. 1 Mikelis Libietis (Tennessee) at the ITA All-American Championships.
Last season at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, eighth-ranked Chris Camillone and David Holiner advanced to the doubles quarterfinals and Daniel Whitehead lost in the singles round of 32.
