TEXAS VS. TEMPLE
- Saturday's contest marks the sixth meeting between Texas and Temple.
- This will be the first meeting between the teams in Philadelphia since Dec. 29, 1939.
- The Longhorns own a 3-2 lead in the all-time series, including a 77-65 win in the last meeting (Dec. 17, 2011).
- In the first matchup between the two schools (Dec. 29, 1939), Temple recorded a 47-37 win in Philadelphia. The Longhorns then tallied a 72-58 victory during a NIT First Round contest in Austin on March 10, 1978. The 1977-78 UT squad went on to capture the Postseason NIT Championship. Texas registered a 70-54 win at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Feb. 19, 1995.
- Temple's last win in the series was a 79-65 victory in a NCAA First Round contest in New Orleans, La. (March 16, 2001).
- Former Longhorn Jaylen Bond (2011-13) is now a member of the Temple Owls. He is not eligible to play this season due to NCAA transfer rules.
CLEANING THE GLASS
Texas has outrebounded seven of its first eight opponents this season and posted double-digit rebound advantages in four of the first eight contests. The Horns have registered a +9.9 rebound margin (42.2-32.4) through their first eight games this season. Four UT players are averaging at least 5.8 rebounds per game (Ridley, Holmes, Lammert and Holland).
DEFENSE WINS
UT has held its first eight opponents to 68.9 points per game on a combined 40.0% FG shooting. The Horns have limited six of their first eight opponents to under 40% FG shooting, including a 37.9% mark (22-of-58) in Monday's win against Vanderbilt.
TAYLOR OFF TO SOLID START
Freshman point guard Isaiah Taylor leads the team in assists (3.5 apg), ranks second in minutes played (27.9 mpg) and fourth in scoring (10.9 ppg) through the first eight contests. He has recorded a 28-to-17 assist-to-turnover ratio and reached double figures in scoring in six of the first eight games. Taylor had a team-high 14 points (6-of-11 FG), a career-high eight assists against just two turnovers and tied a season-high with five boards in 31 minutes during Monday's win against Vanderbilt.
