Young was the Player of the Game in 2005 and 2006
Vince Young has been named to The Rose Bowl Game All-Century Class, Football Writers Association of America Executive Director Steve Richardson announced Sunday.
The Tournament of Roses, in commemoration of the 100th Rose Bowl Game, created the program to honor great players and coaches throughout the history of the game.
Over the course of the regular season, FWAA members selected one Rose Bowl Game representative from each decade to comprise an All-Century Class. Young, who earned Player of the Game honors in 2005 and 2006, is the selection from the 2000s.
Young led Texas to a 41-38 win over USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl Game and national championship, putting together arguably one of the best performances in college football history. Young ran for 200 yards, threw for 267 and set the Rose Bowl Game record for total yards. He ran for three touchdowns, including the last two scores of the game to lead the Longhorns to victory.
The year before, Young led UT to a 38-37 win over Michigan. In that game, he tied the record for touchdowns responsible for with five (four rushing, one passing), while running for 192 yards and passing for 180. Young's play late in the game was vital, as his two fourth quarter touchdown runs helped Texas overcome a 10-point deficit.
The panelists for the All-Century Class, spanning media outlets across the country, also nominated one overall player and one overall coach who best captured the Passion, Strength, Tradition and Honor of the Rose Bowl Game.
