Seniors show the way for No. 11 Men's Track and Field at Armory Collegiate Invitational

A pair of seniors led the way for the 11th-ranked Texas men's track and field team during Friday's opening-day action at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
Hayden Baillio remained perfect in the shot put this season with his best indoor effort of the year and second best of his career, and Keiron Stewart had his top time (7.73) of 2013 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Baillio, a three-time first team All-American, posted a mark of 63 feet, 7 3/4 inches (19.40m) to win the shot put championship event which had a field of 49 competitors. He has won each of his three shot put competitions this season.
Baillio's toss was more than eight inches better than second-place Richard Garrett of UTSA (62-11.25/19.18m) and moved him from seventh to fifth on the 2013 NCAA indoor performance list. Baillio's indoor personal-best of 64-6 1/2 (19.67m) occurred at the 2012 Big 12 Championships.
"It was a good performance by Hayden. We've always done well in the shot put here," associate head coach Mario Sategna said.
The Longhorns took the top three spots in the same event last season.
Stewart, a five time All-American, came in second in the 60mh championship event and moved into sole possession of fifth place on the NCAA indoor performance list. Spencer Adams of Clemson blazed to the win in a nation-leading 7.59. Stewart had twice posted a time of 7.74 this season.
The efforts of Baillio and Stewart highlighted a contingent of 14 Longhorns who made the trek to the 12th-annual track and field meet that features individuals from more than 100 universities and colleges.
Stewart was edged out of the finals of the 60-meter championship event. He clocked a time of 6.83 in the prelims to finish 17th. The top 16 advanced to the finals.
"Keiron got a lot of work in today which should help him in prepping for the Big 12 meet," Sategna said.
Will Spence was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 58-4 (17.78m), his second-best effort of the season.
Emerson Sanders finished tied for fourth in the long jump college event by matching his season-best leap of 23-3 1/4 (7.09m). Multi-event athlete Johannes Hock was sixth in that event with a mark of 23-2 3/4 (7.08m).
Another multi-event athlete, Jake Wohlford, clocked a personal-best time of 8.11 in the 60-meter hurdles. Hock also had the best time (8.48) of his short career in the same event.
The Longhorns are entered in three events Saturday - the triple jump, weight throw and 4x400-meter relay.
