NEW ORLEANS - Senior Kyle Merber was named to the Division I All-Academic Cross Country Team on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Merber was one of 67 athletes from around the country to earn a spot on the team, one which consisted of student-athletes who compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher and either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2012.
A native of Dix Hills, N.Y., Merber graduated from Columbia last year with a bachelor's degree in philosophy and is currently enrolled in the graduate advertising program at Texas.
Merber finished ninth at the 2012 NCAA South Central Regional and helped the Longhorns finish ninth at the NCAA Championships with a 98th-place showing.
Merber competed for the Longhorns this past weekend at the Big 12 Indoor Championships and placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.84. He also ran the final leg of the distance medley relay which placed second.
