TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 15 Texas men's tennis lost to No. 44 Florida State, 5-2, for the first time in program history on Friday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
"We had a lot of opportunities today but came up a little short," head coach Michael Center said. "We won four first-sets in singles but were only able to win one of those matches - that was really the difference. We didn't put enough pressure on them today, but we have to focus on getting better as we prepare for South Florida tomorrow."
The Longhorns (6-4) won the first eight meetings with the Seminoles (9-3) entering Friday's dual. It is UT's first loss of the season against an opponent not ranked in the ITA top 10.
After the teams split the first two doubles matches, Florida State earned the doubles point by upsetting No. 11 Chris Camillone / David Holiner, 8-6, in No. 1 singles.
Lloyd Glasspool defeated Blake David in No. 4 singles and now has won eight of his last 10 overall singles matches, including a 7-2 mark in dual match play this season. Glasspool's point tied the team match, 1-1, before Florida State rallied to win the next three in singles and clinch the dual victory.
David Holiner - playing the No. 5 position for the first time of the season - defeated Anderson Reed in three sets after the match had been decided.
The Longhorns return to action with a dual against No. 75 South Florida on Saturday in Tallahassee at 4 p.m. CT.
