NEW ORLEANS - Following their performances at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships last weekend, the 11 Longhorns who competed brought home a collective 16 All-America honors, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday.
Leading the way for Texas were juniors Christy Udoh and Briana Nelson, who each earned a pair of first team nods. The two picked up eighth-place finishes in their individual events (Udoh in the 200 meters and Nelson in the 400 meters) and were also members of UT's third-place 4x400-meter relay team.
Junior Danielle Dowie and freshman Courtney Okolo, both of whom also received second Ttam accolades in the 400m, joined Udoh and Nelson on the Mile relay squad.
Senior Kendra Chambers (800 meters), junior Sara Sutherland (5,000 meters) and sophomore Morgan Snow (60-meter hurdles) rounded out Texas' representation on the All-America First Team. Both Chambers and Snow raced to their first individual All-America honors. Sutherland earned her second in the 5,000m after placing fifth in the event at the 2012 indoor national meet.
Junior Shanay Briscoe collected a pair of second team honors for her performances in high jump and the pentathlon. Also earning a spot on the second team were senior Chalonda Goodman (200m), junior A'Lexus Brannon (long jump) and redshirt freshman Kaitlin Petrillose (pole vault).
Texas' 16 All-America awards were the second most of any school behind team champion Oregon, who brought home 19.
