HOUSTON - Texas senior diver Shelby Cullinan claimed the platform event Wednesday afternoon during the final session of the NCAA Zone "D" Diving Meet at The University of Houston.
Cullinan, a two-time All-American in the event, took top honors with 595.60 points. Had Cullinan not already qualified for the NCAA Championships during Monday's three-meter event, she would have done so on Wednesday with her platform victory.
UT junior Maren Taylor placed fourth with 551.05 points, and senior Diana Wilcox took sixth place with 541.70 points. Freshman Meghan Houston took 22nd place in the preliminary round with 193.45 points.
The seven NCAA Championships qualifiers from Zone D are Texas' Cullinan and Taylor, Loren Figueroa (Missouri), Margaret Keefer (Minnesota), Cassie Weil (LSU), Rebecca St. Germain (Texas A&M) and Sarah McCrady (Minnesota). UT's Houston would have been the next diver awarded a NCAA Championships berth if the Zone had an eighth berth available, given her fourth-place finish in the one-meter event.
Cullinan and Taylor will compete in the NCAA Championships beginning March 21 in Indianapolis.
