STILLWATER, Okla. - Sophomore Nneka Enemkpali posted a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double, her 12th of the season, but the Texas Women's Basketball team lost to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 64-58, on Saturday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Longhorns led for much of the first half but surrendered a nine-point second-half lead. Down 60-55 with under a minute to play, Chassidy Fussell sank a long three-pointer to bring Texas within two. But Oklahoma State sealed the game with four straight makes from the line for the final tally.
Freshman Imani McGee-Stafford's 15 points complemented Enemkpali's scoring effort, with Fussell and freshman Empress Davenport each adding nine.
UT went out front early thanks to solid inside-outside play and a strong effort on the offensive glass. The Cowgirls fought back and briefly took the lead twice before the Longhorns embarked on 10-2 to run to go up 26-19. Oklahoma State answered with an 8-2 run of its own to get within three and the teams headed to the locker room with the Longhorns up five.
Texas stretched its advantage to its game-high nine before Oklahoma State went on a 12-2 run to go ahead for the first time since 8:33 in the first half at 39-38. The teams then traded leads 10 times with five ties over the next 6:06 before OSU went up 55-50. Nneka Enemkpali would get Texas within one at 56-55 with two minutes to play, but that would be the closest the Longhorns would get despite Fussell's late-game trey.
Four Cowgirls reached double figures, led by Kendra Suttles with 18 points. Liz Donohoe and Tiffany Bias scored 13 apiece and Toni Young tacked on 11.
The Longhorns will return home for their final regular season game against West Virginia. Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally by Longhorn Network.
POSTGAME NOTES
Nneka Enemkpali's 12 double-doubles tie for the lead with Imani McGee-Stafford's dozen on the UT team this season ... with one block today, McGee-Stafford stands one shy of tying the all-time freshman record of 69 at Texas, held by Retha Swindell ... Celina Rodrigo dished four assists to become just the sixth freshman in program history to eclipse the century mark in the category during her rookie season, the first since Carla Cortijo (2006-07) ... Texas is now 25-13 against Oklahoma State all-time and 9-8 when playing in Stillwater ... the last time the Longhorns picked up a win at Gallagher-Iba Arena was during the 2009 Big 12 season.
