NORMAN, Okla. -No. 19 Texas won the doubles point over No. 14 Oklahoma, but lost 4-1 in the Big 12 Men's Tennis Championship semifinals on Friday at Headington Family Tennis Center.
"We did some good things in doubles today," head coach Michael Center said. "I thought we were more aggressive. But whatever momentum we had just went away so quickly in the singles. We didn't get any first sets. It was just an uphill battle at that point. They just really whipped us after that, to be honest."
Texas (16-8) loses for the first time of the season when winning the doubles point. Tournament host Oklahoma (18-6) advances to the Big 12 Championship title match on Sunday.
Seniors Ben Chen and Daniel Whitehead clinched the doubles point for the Longhorns with their second win over a nationally ranked opponent this season. Facing a 2-0 deficit, Chen and Whitehead won seven consecutive games en route to an 8-5 win over 74th-ranked Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alvarez Llamas.
Lloyd Glasspool and Søren Hess-Olesen improved to 3-1 in dual match play as doubles partners with an 8-6 win over Nick Papac and Lawrence Formentera.
Oklahoma won all six first sets in singles play and clinched the team win with straight set victories at positions Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5.
The 19th-ranked Longhorns will learn their NCAA Championship seeding on Tuesday, April 30 in a selection show streamed on NCAA.com.
