No. 17 Women's Tennis defeats UTSA in season opener, 6-1

Longhorns host ITA Kick-Off event this weekend at Penick-Allison.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 17 Texas (1-0) won the doubles point and five of six singles matches on its way to a 6-1 season-opening victory over UTSA (1-1) Wednesday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas clinched the doubles point by way of wins at the third and second doubles positions, respectively. Freshman Ratnika Batra and Lana Groenvynck teamed up for a 6-2 win over UTSA's Alena Shichkova and Daniela Garcia-Diaz at third doubles. UT nailed down the doubles point with a 6-2 win from Neda Koprcina and Elizabeth Begley over Lina Hallgren and Isabelle Jonsson. The remaining doubles match was suspended.
All-America sophomore Breaunna Addison gave Texas a 2-0 lead with her 6-0, 6-2 win over Jacobea Junger at first singles. Batra blanked UTSA's Nicole Karaklis at fourth singles, and Koprcina clinched the UT victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jonsson at third singles.
Freshman Pippa Horn of England added a 6-4, 6-0 win over the Roadrunners' Hallgren at fifth singles. Senior Juliana Gajic closed out the scoring for Texas with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Irene Gandara Gonzalez at sixth singles.
Texas hosts Auburn on Saturday, Jan. 25 in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event at Penick-Allison. The Horns take on the Tigers at 10 a.m. CT. Rice and Florida State will go head-to-head at Penick-Allison Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The first-round winners will play Sunday for a berth in next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
