No. 17 Women's Tennis defeats No. 23 Auburn, 4-1

Longhorns take on No. 22 Rice on Sunday at 1 p.m. Central in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 17 Texas (2-0) dropped the doubles point but produced four singles wins and posted a 4-1 win over No. 23 Auburn (0-1) Saturday in the first round of the national ITA Kick-Off Weekend event.
Texas will take on No. 22 Rice Sunday at 1 p.m. CT for a berth in next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Auburn will meet Florida State in a consolation match Sunday at 10 a.m. CT. All matches will be held at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The Longhorns led off the doubles session with a 6-3 win from Ratnika Batra and Lina Padegimaite at the third position, but Auburn took the remaining matches to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
Texas responded and took the first sets at all six singles positions. The Longhorns closed out four singles decisions to close out their 4-1 win. The remaining matches were suspended.
Sophomore All-American Breaunna Addison, ranked 22nd in the latest ITA singles rankings, made short work of Auburn's 12th-ranked Pleun Burgmans and won by a 6-0, 6-2 count at first singles. Senior Elizabeth Begley never let up at second singles and registered a 6-2, 6-3 win over Paula de Man to give Texas the lead for good.
UT's 77th-ranked Batra staked Texas to a 3-1 lead behind a 6-3, 6-0 win over Reka Muller at fourth singles. Moments later, Padegimaite closed out a 6-1, 6-2 win over Auburn's Jackie Kasler to clinch the team victory for the Longhorns.
