TEXAS VS. TEXAS TECH
- Saturday's contest marks the 132nd meeting between Texas and Texas Tech.
- All-time: The Longhorns hold a 78-53 lead in the all-time series that dates back to a 48-28 Texas victory in Austin on Dec. 15, 1939.
- Recent: Texas has won 17 of the last 18 games against Tech, including 10 straight. Five of the last seven games have been double-digit wins for UT, including a 31-point victory on Jan. 11, 2011 in Lubbock.
- Big 12 era: Texas is 33-4 against the Red Raiders since the Big 12 began in 1996-97. UT's longest winning streak in the series (13 games) came during the Big 12 era from 1998-2003.
- Barnes era: Texas is 29-3 against Texas Tech under Rick Barnes, including a 15-0 mark in Austin.
- Last season: Texas improved to 6-3 in overtime games against Tech with a 71-69 win in Lubbock on March 9, 2013.
WHAT'S IN A WIN
- A win would mark the 1,686th victory in program history.
- A win would mark head coach Rick Barnes' 370th victory at Texas and his 572nd victory all-time as a head coach.
- A win would improve UT's record to 12-4, marking the program's best 16-game start to a season since 2011-12 (started 12-4). It would also mark the 12th time in the Rick Barnes era (last 16 years) that the Horns have opened the year with at least 12 wins in their first 16 contests (16-0 in 2009-10; 14-2 in 2005-06; 13-3 in 2000-01, 2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2010-11; 12-4 in 2008-09 and 2011-12.
SUCCESS AGAINST TECH IN THE BARNES ERA
UT enters Saturday's game with a 29-3 mark against the Red Raiders during the Rick Barnes era. The Horns are a perfect 15-0 against Texas Tech in Austin during the Barnes era.
CLEANING THE GLASS
The Longhorns posted a +12 rebound margin (45-33) during Wednesday's loss at No. 11/12 Oklahoma State, including a 20-6 advantage on the offensive glass. UT has outrebounded 12 of its first 15 opponents this year and sports a +7.3 rebound margin (42.5-35.1) on the year. UT has recorded double-digit rebound margins in seven of its first 15 contests.
CROAKER HEATING UP
In the last two games entering Saturday's contest, freshman guard Damarcus Croaker has averaged 13.5 points in 26.0 minutes per contest while converting 10-of-20 (.500) field goals, including 7-of-14 (.500) from three-point range.
HOLMES LEADING BY CONSISTENT EXAMPLE
The most experienced player on this year's roster, junior forward Jonathan Holmes leads the team in scoring (13.0 ppg) and ranks third on the team in blocks (20) and second on the team in rebounding (7.1) rpg) while averaging 22.7 minutes per game this season. Holmes missed the game against UTA (Nov. 29) due to the death of his grandmother. He has played in 77 career games (60 starts) and has reached double figures in scoring 31 times and in rebounds six times.
