Softball opens 2014 fall schedule on Friday against McLennan CC

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas softball team will open its 2014 fall schedule by hosting McLennan Community College on Fri., Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. CT at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The contest is slated to be broadcast live on Longhorn Network.
Admission is free to each of UT's fall match-ups and free parking will be provided in lots 103 & 115 beginning three hours prior to game time. Concessions will also be in operations throughout the home fall slate with a special promotion, $2 "Fall Ball Dog" available for purchase.
Friday's seven-inning contest will utilize a pre-set 16-player batting line-up (eight batters will take two turns through the order before moving on to the second eight batters) and a pre-set defensive line-up for each inning of play.
As a result of renovations currently ongoing with the UT locker room, athletic training area and coaches' offices at McCombs Field, Texas will set-up for this contest in the first-base dugout.
Texas returns seven position players that started at least 31 games and 15 overall letter-winners from last season's NCAA Regional finalist, including 2014 NFCA All-American junior outfielder Lindsey Stephens and sophomore pitcher and 2014 NFCA All-Region selection Tiarra Davis. The Longhorns also welcome four freshmen to the squad in shortstop/outfielder Alyssa Angel, pitcher/first baseman Kristen Clark, catcher/outfielder Randel Leahy and pitcher Erica Wright.
The remaining UT fall schedule includes home games against the University of the Incarnate Word (Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.), Galveston Community College (Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.) and St. Edward's (Oct. 30 at 5 p.m.), a road match-up at Texas State (Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.) and a special Veterans' Day game at McCombs Field alongside the Sun City, TX Veterans on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. live on LHN.
