• TELEVISION: The game will be televised nationally by ESPN2 John Saunders (pxp), Dick Vitale (analyst) and Jeff Goodman (reporter) will call the action.

• DEFENSE WINS: Texas limited Iowa to 29.6% FG shooting (16-of-54), including a 4-of-14 (.286) mark from three-point range, in Thursday's win. The Horns have held their first three opponents to an average of 53.3 ppg on a combined 28.9% FG shooting (52-of-180). UT has held all three opponents below 30% FG shooting.
• HOLMES PROVIDES SPARK: Senior forward Jonathan Holmes scored 17 of his team-high 19 points in the second half in Thursday's win against Iowa. He ranks second on the team in scoring (14.3 ppg) and leads the squad in rebounding (6.7 rpg) while hitting 15-of-21 (.714) from the floor, including 7-of-10 from beyond the arc, in the first three games.
• BLOCK PARTY: Through the first three games, Texas has recorded 19 blocked shots (6.3 bpg). The Horns had seven rejections in Thursday's win against Iowa. A total of six UT players have recorded at least one blocked shot in the first three contests.
• 2K CLASSIC BENEFITING WWP: The 2K Classic is celebrating its 20th anniversary this season and returns to Madison Square Garden for the 17th consecutive year. The 2014 2K Classic marks the second year that Wounded Warrior Project is the beneficiary of the event. The mission of the WWP is to honor and empower wounded warriors. WWP raises awareness and enlists the public's aid for the needs of injured service members, helps injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and provides unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
• TEXAS IN THE 2K CLASSIC: The Longhorns are making their fifth appearance in the 2K Classic. UT also competed in the tourney in 1997, 2002, 2006 and 2010. Texas sports a 10 4 mark in its five 2K Classic appearances. In its most recent appearance (2010), the Horns defeated Navy (83-52) and Louisiana Tech (89-58) in regional round play in Austin. Texas then topped No. 13/16 Illinois (90-84 ot) in the semifinals before falling to No. 5/4 Pittsburgh (68-66) in the championship game.
• TEXAS VS. CALIFORNIA: Friday's contest marks the fourth meeting between Texas and California. The Golden Bears hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series which dates back to the 1962-63 season. In the first meeting, Cal recorded a 70-62 victory in Berkeley on Dec. 21, 1962. Cal then registered an 82-77 win in the consolation game of the American Legion Tournament in Seattle on Dec. 30, 1965. In the most recent meeting, the Longhorns tallied a 57-54 win in a Preseason NIT Second Round contest in Austin on Nov. 15, 2000 (Rick Barnes' third season at Texas).
