The Texas Men's Tennis team will conclude fall individual competition with representatives at two events this weekend in New York and Florida.
Senior two-time All-American Søren Hess-Olesen is one of 32 players competing in the singles draw at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, beginning Thursday in New York. Five other Longhorns will compete in the Florida Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
Hess-Olesen is the No. 8 seed in the National Indoors singles draw and will face North Carolina's 23rd-ranked Ronnie Schneider on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Central. It will be the second time Hess-Olesen and Schneider meet this fall, with Hess-Olesen winning the first match, 6-1, 6-2, at the Porsche Napa Valley Tennis Classic on Sept. 20.
It is the Denmark native's second appearance at the USTA/ITA National Indoors, but first appearance in the singles draw of the event. Last season in New York, Hess-Olesen advanced the to the doubles quarterfinals with Lloyd Glasspool.
The Florida Invitational will include student-athletes from the University of Florida, the University of North Florida, the University of Miami, and UT. The Longhorns will be represented by senior No. 31 Lloyd Glasspool, senior No. 106 Adrien Berkowicz, junior Nick Naumann, sophomore No. 56 George Goldhoff and freshman William Jou.
Texas combines for a 36-29 (.554) singles record -- including 11 wins over ranked opponents -- and 10-10 (.500) doubles record this fall.
After the holiday break, Texas returns to host the UT Invitational from Jan. 9-11 in Austin, followed the first dual match of the season at Tulsa on Jan. 16.
