Longhorns close out home stand Sunday against West Virginia.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 21 Texas (7-9, 2-1 Big 12) won a pair of doubles matches and swept the six singles contests en route to a 7-0 win over Iowa State Friday evening at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas won at the second and third doubles positions to win the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead. Freshmen Ratnika Batra and Neda Koprcina posted an 8-2 win at second doubles before freshman Pippa Horn and senior Juliana Gajic added an 8-5 win at the third slot.
Texas pushed its lead to 2-0 behind a 6-1, 6-1 win from senior Elizabeth Begley over ISU's Budai at second singles. The Horns took a 3-0 lead behind Batra's 6-0, 6-1 win over the Cyclones' Meghan Cassens at third singles. Koprcina clinched the Texas win with her 6-0, 6-2 win at fourth singles over Ana Gasparovic.
Horn staked Texas to a 5-0 lead with her 6-4, 6-4 win over Emma Waites at fifth singles. Addison pushed the Longhorns' lead to 6-0 with her 6-3, 6-3 win over Ksenia Pronina at first singles. Sophomore Lana Groenvynck closed out the 7-0 team victory with her 6-2, 6-4 win over Talisa Merchiers at sixth singles.
Texas closes its weekend of conference play Sunday when it hosts West Virginia at 11 a.m. CT
