Texas Football heads to AT&T Stadium in Arlington to take on PAC-12 foe UCLA in The AdvoCare Cowboys Showdown on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. Central. Hailed as one of the most anticipated nonconference matchups, both the Longhorns and Bruins enter the 2014 season with high expectations.
The contest marks the seventh overall meeting between the two storied programs, with the all-time series tied 3-3. It is also the third time the teams have squared off in the last five years with Texas winning the most recent contest, 49-20, in Pasadena in 2011.
The Charlie Strong era kicks off in a big way as the Longhorns once again face one of the most challenging nonconference schedules in the country, highlighted by the UCLA matchup. Under Strong, the Texas Football program blends returning talent with renewed focus and toughness. The Longhorns return starters at six positions on offense and seven on defense in addition to starting experience at several others. Those players are guided by a driven staff headed by Strong, who guided Louisville to the fourth-most wins in the nation over the last two seasons with a 23-3 record.
UCLA enters the upcoming season with 16 returning starters and is widely considered a preseason top-10 team. The Bruins are fresh off their first 10-win season since 2005, including a 42-12 thrashing of ACC power Virginia Tech in the 2013 Hyundai Sun Bowl. Head coach Jim Mora enters his third season at the helm and has the Bruins poised for a PAC-12 South title.
