Hoagland, Team USA claim gold at World Cup of Softball

Former Longhorn standout picked up her second gold medal in three appearances with Team USA.
IRVINE, Calif. – Former Texas Softball standout Taylor Hoagland (2010-13) helped the U.S. Women's National Team capture gold at the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX on Sunday in Irvine, Calif. Team USA went a perfect 7-0 at the tournament, while Canada (5-2) finished second and Chinese Taipei (4-3) took bronze.
Hoagland picked up her second gold medal in three appearances with Team USA, who won the World Cup for the seventh time in the event's nine-year history.
During the week-long tournament, Hoagland saw action in four games, over which she hit .600 (6-for-10), including three doubles and a two-run home run against Venezuela on July 9.

Up next for Team USA is the Canadian Open Fast Pitch Invitational in Surrey, B.C. July 15-21. The team will get a short break before reuniting in Waldorf, Md. for an exhibition series, after which they will head to Azzano, Italy for Italian Softball Week. All of these events, including the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX, are in preparation for the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championships, which is August 12-24 in Haarlem, Netherlands.
