COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman Ariel Atkins and USA Basketball captured Gold at the U18 FIBA Americas Championship with a 104-74 victory over Canada on Sunday night at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
The win marks the Americans' fifth win in five days, including the second win over Canada. Atkins started in all five games of the competition for Team USA, totaling 23 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and 11 steals.
Atkins becomes the fifth Longhorn to win the U18 FIBA Americas Championship with USA Basketball, joining Erika Arriaran (2004), Vicki Hall (1988), Cassie Peoples (2010) and Brittainey Raven (2006).
The Duncanville, Texas native is a part of a top-10 recruiting class that joins the Longhorns for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
