AUSTIN, Texas -- Get ready for the return of Texas Volleyball to Longhorn Network, ESPN's 24-hour network devoted to the University of Texas. Coverage of the team ranked second in the nation begins Saturday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. Central with the Orange vs. White Scrimmage at Gregory Gym, followed by the home opener Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. against Arizona.
The network televises all home matches, including matchups against Big 12 opponents Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Oklahoma. Between conference matches, Texas plays two exhibition games against Zhejiang, 2014 Chinese Volleyball League Champions, Oct. 27-28 at 7 p.m. airing live on LHN from Gregory Gymnasium.
Play-by-play announcing duties are covered by former Olympic athlete Paul Sunderland, and Texas Sports Hall of Famer Nell Fortner provides analysis. Tyler Denning, who has experience covering international-level competition, will also provide play-by-play during the season.
Texas Volleyball has advanced to at least the NCAA Regional finals in each of the last eight seasons, the longest streak currently in the nation. UT was tabbed No. 2 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll, released earlier this month.
In 2013, Texas posted a 27-3 overall record, including a perfect 16-0 conference record en route to its third consecutive Big 12 title, and reached the semifinals of the NCAA Championship. Haley Eckerman, two-time Big 12 Player of the Year and the 2013 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year, is one of two returning seniors.
