Get your first glimpse of Shaka Smart and the 2015-16 Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
Since head coach Shaka Smart's arrival last spring, the Texas Longhorns have sweat, studied and solidified in the name of teamwork. Now, it's time to see that bond translate to the basketball court.
Get to Gregory Gym on Wednesday, Oct. 21 for the Texas Tip-Off presented by American Campus Communities. Texas Men's Basketball is set to play an intra-squad scrimmage showcasing Smart's high-energy, up-tempo brand of basketball.
Admission is free. Doors open at 6 p.m. The first 2,500 fans to arrive will receive a free T-shirt, and free food will be provided to the first 500 students in attendance.
Parking for Gregory Gym is available in the Brazos Garage. Parking on the day of the event is $5 and CASH ONLY. To purchase parking in advance, please do so online through Click and Park.
One lucky UT student will have the opportunity to take the American Campus Communities Half-Court Shot for a chance to win $10,000. The first 200 eligible UT students will receive a raffle ticket and one contestant will be randomly selected to take the shot during the second half.
As the Longhorns promise to bring a united, committed and enthusiastic team to the floor, the Texas Tip-Off provides the campus community a night to embrace Smart and his Longhorns and showcase similar values. Energy from fans feeds the energy of the team, and the tight, old-school setting of Gregory Gym allows for excitement and energy to stir as one.
"We want to create an atmosphere this season where people are fighting to get into our games. We know that if we present a product on the floor that is enthusiastic and committed to one another, we'll attract a lot of people," Smart said. "We want people to care about what we do, and how we play. The intention behind hosting Texas Tip-Off at Gregory Gym is for our team and fans to spend some time around each other in a close environment, so we can start building a relationship with each other that will be the start to a fun and exciting basketball season."
In order to attend, please claim a free ticket at TexasSports.com/Tickets. Print-at-home or mobile tickets will be emailed immediately after the online redemption; a ticket must be presented at Gregory Gym to gain admission.
The Longhorns will make their public debut under Smart's leadership in a competitive, dynamic setting. In-arena emcees and a DJ will bring the energy and keep the pace moving.
