Women's Tennis shuts out Yale, 4-0

Horns make short work of the Bulldogs, resume conference play at home this weekend against TCU and Texas Tech.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas (4-7) won the doubles point and picked up singles wins from freshman Dani Wagland, junior Breaunna Addison and senior Lina Padegimaite in a 4-0 win over Yale Tuesday afternoon at Caswell Tennis Center.
The doubles session featured a split at the first and third positions that left the deciding contest at second doubles. Yale opened with a 6-3 win at the third slot, but UT's Addison and Wagland responded with a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs' Madeleine Hamilton and Ree Ree Li at the first position.
Leading 5-4 at second doubles, Texas' Ryann Foster and Padegimaite picked up a timely service break of Yale's Hanna Yu and Valerie Shklover to post a 6-4 win and seal the doubles point for the Longhorns.
"That was the third match in a row they've played at No. 1, and all three were kind of similar," said UT coach Danielle Lund McNamara. "They were kind of close at the start and then they pulled away to wins. I've been impressed by that. You have to be able to put those matches away when you're playing a six-game, no-ad set. At No. 2, Ryann and Lina hadn't finished enough matches together. It was good to see them close well and be the aggressive team there."
Texas seized control early in the singles session and put away three wins to clinch the team victory. Wagland made short work of Yale's Sherry Li and prevailed by a 6-2, 6-2 count at fifth singles.
Addison engaged in a tight first-set battle with Yale's Yu at first singles but ultimately took the set, 6-3. The two-time All-American cruised to a 6-2 second-set win to give the Horns a 3-0 lead.
Padegimaite notched her third win in less than a week and finished off Yale's Shklover at sixth singles, 6-3, 6-4.
"The key, I think, to winning at the top of college tennis is you have that one to get out there and hang with the other player at No. 1 singles," McNamara said. "But, depth is absolutely critical. I think that was great for us to win at Nos. 5 and 6 as well. With a full healthy lineup like we have now, we can win at any position against any team. This was a great way to go into a huge Big 12 weekend for us.
Texas hosts Big 12 Conference foes TCU (March 20) and Texas Tech (March 22) at Caswell Tennis Center (2312 Shoal Creek Blvd.). Friday's match against TCU will air live on Longhorn Network beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
