ALBANY, N.Y. -- Texas Women's Basketball ended its deepest run in the NCAA Championship in 11 years to No. 1 UConn, 105-54, on Saturday in the Albany Regional Semifinal.
Freshman guard Ariel Atkins posted 11 points for her 14th game this season in double-digit scoring. Junior center Imani McGee-Stafford led the Horns in rebounds with seven, while junior guard Empress Davenport added five assists.
As a team, the Longhorns (35-1) shot 34 percent (22-of-64) from the field and connected on 3-of-13 three-pointers. UT recorded 32 bench points to UConn's 12 and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds to the Huskies' 14, but lost the turnover war, 18 to six.
The Huskies (24-11) went on a 7-0 run early in the first half to open a 9-2 deficit against the Longhorns. Texas stayed close and cut the lead to within five at 6-11, but UConn answered with a 6-0 run to extend its lead to 17-6. From there, they went executed a 27-5 run to close out the half and went into the locker rooms with a 52-24 lead.
Atkins had six points and two steals, while Davenport had four assists and McGee-Stafford led with five rebounds in the half.
The Huskies took control early in the second half with a 15-4 run in the first minutes. In the half, UConn shot 58 percent from the field, including a 42 percent mark from behind the arc.
Breanna Stewart led the Huskies with 31 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and two steals.
Texas concludes the 2014-15 season with the most wins (24) and its longest stay in the NCAA Championship (Sweet 16) since the 2003-04 season.
• TEXAS-UCONN SERIES: Texas and Connecticut met for the sixth time in program history on Saturday. UConn leads the all-time series, 6-0.
• STARTERS: For the third consecutive game, Texas started junior guard Celina Rodrigo, junior guard Brady Sanders, junior guard Empress Davenport, sophomore guard Brianna Taylor, and junior center Imani McGee-Stafford. Texas is 2-1 when this lineup starts.
• NCAA TOURNAMENT W-L RECORDS: In the NCAA Championship, Texas is now 35-27 overall, 8-4 in the round of 16, 5-3 as a No. 5 seed, and 3-2 under Head Coach Karen Aston.
• AFTER 41 SEASONS: Texas holds a 979-367 (.728) all-time record after 41 seasons of competition.
• MOST WINS IN A DECADE: Texas concludes the 2014-15 season with 24 wins -- the most wins since posting a 30-5 record during the 2003-04 season.
• 100 POINTS ALLOWED: UConn's 105 points on Saturday marks just the sixth time Texas has ever allowed 100 points in a game, and the first time since Dec. 1, 2006 at Tennessee (76-106). Texas has scored 100 points in a game 65 times in the program's 41-year history.
• POINTS OFF THE BENCH: Texas held a 32-12 scoring advantage in points off the bench.
• LAST 12 GAMES: Texas won nine of its last 12 games to conclude the season.
