NORMAN, Okla. – Seventh-ranked Texas Men's Tennis lost to No. 1 Oklahoma, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The rivals split doubles matches on courts one and three -- OU's sixth-ranked duo defeating No. 41 Lloyd Glasspool and Søren Hess-Olesen on one, and UT's Nick Naumann and Michael Riechmann winning on three. The Sooners clinched the doubles point by taking a tiebreaker on court two, 7-6(3), involving Adrien Berkowicz and George Goldhoff and OU's Andres Harris and Alex Ghilea.
Oklahoma took a 3-0 lead after defeating UT's stalwart first and second singles positions -- No. 1 Hess-Olesen and No. 34 Glasspool. Hess-Olesen lost to No. 13 Andrew Harris, 6-1, 6-3, while Glasspool lost to No. 2 Axel Alvarex Llamas, 6-1, 6-2. It is just the second time this dual-match season that Hess-Olesen and Glasspool have lost in the same match.
Senior No. 72 Adrien Berkowicz picked up his sixth win over a ranked opponent by defeating No. 23 Dane Webb in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, on court three. Berkowicz's win put the Longhorns on the scoreboard, 3-1.
Oklahoma (19-1, 2-0) clinched the dual-match as Spencer Papa defeated Nick Naumann, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 5 singles.
Texas (15-3, 1-1 Big 12) returns home to face No. 25 Texas Tech on Saturday (3 p.m. Central, Longhorn Network).
