WACO, Texas -- Three Longhorns combined for a 2-1 record in the NCAA Singles Championship Round of 64 on Wednesday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Lloyd Glasspool
Senior All-American Lloyd Glasspool upset No. 3 seed Mackenzie McDonald of UCLA in dominant fashion, 6-0, 6-2. McDonald becomes the highest ranked opponent Glasspool has defeated in his illustrious career at Texas, which includes three All-Big 12 Singles honors.
Glasspool will face North Carolina's 28th-ranked Ronnie Schneider in the round of 32 on Thursday.
Søren Hess-Olesen
Senior All-American Søren Hess-Olesen improved to 8-2 all-time in NCAA Singles Championship play with a straight-set win over UTSA's Tomas Stillman, 6-1, 6-2. Hess-Olesen holds a No. 6 seed in the tournament and a No. 4 national ranking.
Hess-Olesen faces TCU's 39th-ranked Cameron Norrie in the round of 32 on Thursday. It is a rematch of this year's USTA/ITA Texas Regional final (Oct. 21, 2014), in which Norrie upset then-No. 5 Hess-Olesen in three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.
In the NCAA Singles Championship, Hess-Olesen has finished as a quarterfinalist in 2013 and a semifinalist in 2014.
Adrien Berkowicz
Senior Adrien Berkowicz saw his collegiate career come to an end after losing to Wake Forest's 16th-ranked Romain Bogaerts, 6-2, 6-4. In just two years with the Longhorns, Berkowicz compiled 55 singles wins, including 33 during dual match play.
Berkowicz, a two-time singles champion in the junior college ranks, was making his first appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship this year.
Doubles
Starting on Thursday, Glasspool and Hess-Olesen will look to build on last season's quarterfinal appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship. The All-American duo will open against USC's second-ranked Yannick Hanfmann and Roberto Quiroz in the round of 32.
