Running back Malcolm Brown signed a free-agent contract with the St. Louis Rams, the team announced Friday.
Brown was consistent during his four years at Texas, rushing for more than 700 yards three times, including a career-high 904 in 2013. He played in 44 games with 25 starts at tailback, ending his career No. 9 on the Texas all-time rushing yards list (2,678). Brown had 11 career 100-yard rushing games, which ranks tied for seventh in school history.
"Malcolm is very explosive," head coach Charlie Strong said. "We didn't have a chance this season to see what he's really made of because we just couldn't open up holes on the line of scrimmage. But when he has the ball in hands, he can run behind his pads and is a very physical runner."
Brown, who hails from San Antonio, was a two-time All-Big 12 selection by the coaches (second team in both 2013 and 2014) and a 2014 academic all-league choice. He earned a spot on the watch lists for the 2014 Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award.
Following the 2014 season, Brown played in the East-West Shrine Game and attended the NFL Combine.
Chris Ogbonnaya was the last former Texas player on the St. Louis roster. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft and spent that season with the team.
