Rodrigo Banzer joins the Longhorns for the 2015-16 season.
AUSTIN, Texas -- Rodrigo Banzer (La Paz, Bolivia) has signed an Athletics Scholarship Agreement to compete for The University of Texas Men's Tennis program, head coach Michael Center announced on Tuesday.
"Rodrigo is a great addition to our program," Center said. "We are getting a very talented young man who has an all-court game, is a team player, and has valuable experience in the Davis Cup and the Pan American Games."
At 18-years-old, Banzer already has a team-high ATP World Tour ranking of No. 938.
Banzer has competed in two Davis Cup Group II ties for Bolivia this year against Mexico and Peru. At the Pan American Games in Toronto this year Banzer advanced to the round of 32 in the singles draw, and the quarterfinals in the doubles draw with doubles partner Federico Zeballos.
The La Paz, Bolivia native joins Harrison Scott (Canada), Leonardo Telles (Brazil), Liam Caruana (New Braunfels, Texas), and John Goodwin (Mission Hills, Kansas) to makeup the Longhorns' recruiting class of 2015.
The Longhorns finished last season ranked No. 9 in the nation after advancing to the NCAA tournament round of 16. Graduated seniors Lloyd Glasspool and Søren Hess-Olesen capped off the year by winning the program's first NCAA Doubles Championship title in 71 years.
