Billy Maxwell to be inducted in HOF this winter
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Track & Field has a long history of success. Part of that history is headed to the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame this winter as former assistant coach Billy Maxwell has been named to the 2015 class for his contributions to collegiate track and field.
Maxwell served as a men's assistant coach at Texas from 1991-95 after a successful career as an assistant coach at Tennessee and winning a national championship as the head coach at LSU. After his time at Texas, he moved onto Nebraska to serve as an assistant coach for the Cornhuskers. He has been a staple on their coaching staff the last 21 years.
At Texas, Maxwell coached 14 All-Americans in the sprints, hurdles and jumps. He helped the Longhorns win three Southwest Conference titles outdoors and two indoors.
The hall of fame induction ceremony will be held December 15 during the USTFCCCA Convention in San Antonio. Other coaches joining Maxwell in the 2015 induction class are: Jim Bibbs, Barbara Crousen, Bob Lewis, Don Strametz and Gary Wilson.
Maxwell is the eighth coach with ties to the Texas Longhorns to be inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame, joining Terry Crawford, DeLoss Dodds, Stan Huntsman, Bev Kearney, Clyde Littlefield, Jack Patterson and Cleburne Price, Jr.
