Longhorns’ rally falls just short as Breaunna Addison, Neda Koprcina and Chelsea Crovetti pick up singles wins.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – UT senior Breaunna Addison, freshman Chelsea Crovetti and sophomore Neda Koprcina fueled a formidable singles rally for the Longhorns, but No. 15 Alabama held on for a 4-3 win over Texas (1-1) Sunday afternoon in the final round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event. The win gives Alabama a berth in next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Addison and UT sophomore Dani Wagland dealt Alabama's 48th-ranked tandem of Andie Daniell and Erin Routliffe a 6-2 defeat at first doubles, but the Tide won the remaining two doubles matches to assume a 1-0 match lead.
Crovetti evened the match for Texas with her 6-1, 6-1 win over Bennett Dunn at sixth singles. Alabama reclaimed the lead with a win at third singles before Addison knotted the match at two with her 6-3, 6-4 win over the 63rd-ranked Routliffe at first singles.
Alabama assumed a 3-2 lead with a three-set win at second singles before Koprcina toughed out a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over the Crimson Tide's Danielle Spielmann at fourth singles to even the match at three.
UT's Lana Groenvynck dropped her first set to Alabama's Natalie Maynetto at fifth singles but returned the favor and registered a 6-3 second-set win. Maynetto, however, put away the match with a 6-1 third-set win.
Texas resumes dual-match play on Feb. 3 with a home contest against Incarnate Word.

Naturally, falling short today is disapointing for our group who invested every bit of themselves in the match. That said, if our ladies continue to pull together in the way that they have, in concert with adding (Katie) Poluta to the team, I am confident we will wind up being a formidable team that will be awfully tough to beat.
