LAST TIME OUT
Ito and his classmate Christian Sigsgaard each made deep runs through the singles draw last week at the ITA All-American Championships. Sigsgaard won 11 matches in the event's pre-qualifying, qualifying and main singles draws and reached the semifinals.
Ito notched two singles wins in the main draw at the All-American after earning the tournament berth via three wins in the qualifying draw. The newcomer from Japan knocked off Duke's 100th-ranked Catalin Mateas in the qualifying draw before eliminating a pair of top-50 foes in the main draw.
Ito opened main draw competition at the All-Ameican with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Oklahoma's 40th-ranked Alexandru Ghilea. He added a win over USC's 48th-ranked Logan Smith before falling to Florida's 37th-ranked Alfredo Perez in three sets in the third round.
NEXT UP
The Longhorns head to the annual ITA Texas Regional Championships in Fort Worth (Oct. 21-24). The singles and doubles event features everyt NCAA Division I men's tennis program in the state. The winners will advance to next month's ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York City.
